Great space if it would see a little TLC
Like this bar, the layout, great patio. But I agree with the others, it really could use a little bit of work put into it. It's really a plain old leather levi type hangout bar that you would expect in small town America. For Houston is should be a little more exciting. But the crowd is fun. Patio is fun. Restroom is fun. Pool tables, darts, touch screen games, pinball. With just a little money and some elbow grease, they could really kick up the sexiness of the cruisey atmosphere and keep the hot guys there all night instead of just drive by's.
Mixed
The crowd is definitely friendly here, the bartenders not so much. The patio is NOT that clean, and anyone who thinks so hasn't seen it in daylight. How hard would it be to hose it down once in a while? Obviously they are not spending money or taking time to make this place as nice as it could be. In many ways a typical bar. The crowd shows up at 11 pm, at off times you may find yourself bored unless you are looking for activity outside.
Urinal maintenance please
If only this place were cleaner it would attract a much better crowd. The environment could be better for facilitating what men really want out of this bar. It really is more of a bear bar than a leather bar.
Fun neighborhood bar
I like the Ripcord on Sat nights. Usually busy, good mix of guys. Not so much a hardcore leather bar, accepting to all. Patio can be fun late at night. Love the after hours on Sat night. I can usually find what I'm looking for!
Those Were the Days
When I first moved to Houston, The Rip on Friday's and Saturday's was a place to see a lot of friends, and get your clothes saturated with cigarette smoke. Now it seem empty on the big nights, and except for major event nights - after a big party, perhaps LUEY, Halloween, 4th of July - it seem empty and a bit sad. Drinks are reasonable, and the location good. Unfortunately, no spark seems to animate it anymore. Certainly it's not a leather bar compared to Eagle or other venues. It would do much better to have events to draw a crowd other than simply being open. People have aged and moved on. They need to get a new focus.
